Description:
Kaplan wheel turbine is an axial flow reaction turbine named in honor of Sir L Dr. B. Kaplan, a German Engineer.
Specifications:

The present set-up consists of a scroll casing housing a runner. The water is fed to the turbine, though the stationary guide vanes & passes though the runner axially. The runner has a hub & airfoil vanes, which are mounted on it. The water is fed to the turbine by means centrifugal pump. The runner is directly mounted on one end of a central SS shaft & other end is connected to a break arrangement. The transparent hollow cylinder made of acrylic is fitted in b/w the draught tube & the causing for observation of flow of on to the airfoil vanes. This runner assembly is supported by thick cast iron pedestal. Load is applied to the turbine with the help of this brake arrangement so that the efficiency of the turbine can be calculated. The set-up is supplied with control panel. A draught tube is fitted on the outlet of the turbine. The set up is complete with guide mechanism. Pressure & vacuum gauge is fitted at the inlet & outlet of the turbine to measure the total supply head to the turbine.
